In 2003, after a stint in the advertising industry, Austrian Ernst Bachinger returned to his first passion of creating art only now with the mechanisms of the advertising industry buried in his mind. Pop Art and Abstract Expressionism provide the art-historical backdrop to his works, now updated with a post-modern, ironic twist, in what amounts to a personal response to the golden age of the American dream and the advertising it spawned.
At first glance, flamboyant, instantly comprehensible and visually arresting, Bachinger's works reveal a deeper, hidden side the longer one looks at them. What may initially look effortless is in fact pieced together in a long process of trial and error with various techniques to ultimately strike an inner sense of coherence.
